The 2017 installment of HIPNIC will be held at Fernwood Resort in Big Sur, California May 19 – 21. (((folkYEAH!))) puts together the festival with Bay Area favorites The Mother Hips each year. Sadly, Tim Bluhm won’t perform at HIPNIC IX, but The Mother Hips have brought in a pair of jam scene veterans to play with them at the festival.
Multi-instrumentalists Jackie Greene will fill in for Bluhm at this year’s HIPNIC. In addition, fellow multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby will be The Hips’ special guest. “HIPNIC IX comes during a transition time for the community of Big Sur and for our brother Tim Bluhm,” said Britt Govea, founder of (((folkYEAH!))) Presents. “Tim is on doctor’s orders to rest and regain his strength so his ankle can heal properly and keep the tower of song within him tall and strong for many years to come. He is a beacon of the Northern California music scene and has been for two decades now. Our prayers go out to Tim for a full recovery this year. Jackie Greene and Jason Crosby will perform with the Mother Hips at HIPNIC IX, which will make for a very special HIPNIC as we give a giant redwood salute to our musical brother Tim Bluhm. The festival has released the daily schedule which can be viewed below. Midnight North, Jonathan Richman, Vetiver, Chuck Prophet and Waco Brothers are among the other acts on the bill. Camping passes for HIPNIC IX are on sale via Eventbrite.
